The Blue Giraffe, a Feel-Good Gallery…
Located on Scenic Highway 30A in WaterColor, Florida, The Blue Giraffe is a one-of-a-kind boutique, featuring art and gifts with heart. Representing a diverse array of local and regional award-winning artists, The Blue Giraffe is a joyful, inspirational, feel-good gallery. It’s a place where classy meets funky and the vibe is always upbeat. While the artist styles vary, the underlying theme is beachy, colorful, seaside art and gifts that complement the upscale yet casual 30A style.
Destination weddings are popular along 30A, and The Blue Giraffe features a wide variety of wedding gifts for guests or one-of-a-kind bridal gifts for the special couple. From the popular local leather and pearls jewelry for bridesmaids to hand-thrown ceramic wedding bowls, seaside gifts that commemorate the special occasion are plentiful.
At the back of the store, “A Sea of Books” represents the literary passions of co-owner Debbie Taylor. She hand selects each book with styles ranging from inspirational gift books to fun beach reads to spiritual books and award-winning children’s titles. It is also one of the best places in South Walton to find books by local and regional authors and stories set within the quaint beach-side towns along 30A.
“I always wanted to have a bookstore, but I got my dream and so much more,” said co-owner Debbie Taylor. She and her daughter, Christi Sheffield, took ownership of The Blue Giraffe in November 2010, fulfilling a lifelong dream of running a business together. As if by fate, Christi and Debbie crossed paths with the former shop owner who felt they were the right buyers for the special place she created.
Following God’s lead and with the support of Larry and Cliff, Debbie and Christi’s husbands, this dynamic mother-daughter team have taken great care to make The Blue Giraffe one of the happiest places on 30A. The union of Christi’s love of art and specialty gifts and Debbie’s passion for the written word has resulted in one delightful shop where customers find themselves happily lost in the sea of treasures and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Jeanie, a big, blue giraffe statue, stands outside the gallery every day to welcome visitors. She was named after Christi’s loving Grandma because giraffes have really big hearts–two feet long and 25 lbs. on average. And a big heart is what drives the business philosophy at The Blue Giraffe. Christi and Debbie hope to always make others feel good. “Taking care of the artists and helping clients find the perfect item is always our priority,” shared co-owner Christi Sheffield. ” We aim to make everybody feel happy and uplifted when they leave The Blue Giraffe.”
The Blue Giraffe recently launched an online Shop with select artwork representing a variety of artists and price points. Check out their eStore at http://bluegiraffe30a.com/shop/. They also offer fun evening art classes taught by a local artist and up-cycled art workshops on the lawn every Wednesday during the summer months.
Debbie and Christi are passionate about giving back to the 30A community, which they now call home. Supporting local charities through financial and art donations is just one of the many ways in which they demonstrate that having a big heart is a great thing.
